  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Becomes a First-Party Offering on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure
Red Hat Tower in Raleigh, North Carolina, its glass facade lit at dusk beneath the red Red Hat sign.

Red Hat has expanded the availability of its open hybrid cloud portfolio on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, making Red Hat Enterprise Linux a first-party offering in the OCI Console and adding several of its core platforms to Oracle Marketplace. The announcement, made on October 19, gives enterprise customers a simpler way to buy, deploy and support the Red Hat software many of them already run on premises, now inside Oracle's cloud.

The centerpiece is Red Hat Enterprise Linux for OCI. Customers can deploy pretuned, ready-to-run images of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and 10 for Intel and AMD fully virtualized instances, with Oracle-specific performance profiles and flexible compute shapes. The instances connect directly to Oracle's native telemetry, monitoring, command-line interface, API and console, and front-line support comes through Oracle Support under a unified escalation path. Billing is pay-as-you-go, metered per Oracle CPU-hour, and customers can draw down 100 percent of the cost using Oracle Universal Credits. Existing bring-your-own-subscription options remain available.

Procurement for the wider portfolio changes as well. Subscriptions for Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization are now available to purchase through Oracle Marketplace. For organizations that have committed Oracle spending, that means the automation, Linux and container platforms they use to standardize hybrid environments can be transacted through Oracle rather than through a separate purchase, helping them optimize existing cloud investments.

The two companies also reported progress on joint engineering. Oracle AI Database 26ai is now fully certified on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8, 9 and 10, continuing a collaboration the companies say spans more than two decades. Oracle Real Application Clusters on Database 19c and Oracle AI Database 26ai have obtained Red Hat validation for on-premises deployment on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization. Oracle WebLogic Server has likewise been validated by Red Hat to run on OpenShift Virtualization, a path intended to let organizations run traditional virtual machines alongside cloud-native containers while they modernize applications.

That virtualization angle matters for enterprise IT teams weighing their options. OpenShift Virtualization has become Red Hat's answer for shops that want one platform for both virtual machines and containers, and validating Oracle's database clustering and WebLogic middleware on it removes a common objection: whether business-critical Oracle workloads can come along. Running the same enterprise Linux on premises and on OCI also reduces configuration drift and retraining during migration, a point both companies emphasized.

Red Hat framed the move as foundation-setting for AI workloads. Kevin Kennedy, Red Hat's vice president for the global partner ecosystem, said navigating the AI era starts with a strong, flexible open hybrid cloud foundation, and that the first-party OCI offering and streamlined Marketplace procurement let customers standardize on a trusted, AI-optimized platform. Oracle's Chris Sullivan, vice president for strategic partnerships, said customers want to modernize critical infrastructure with reliability, security and flexibility, and that making the platforms simpler to buy and run frees teams to deliver value instead of managing infrastructure.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux for OCI is available now as a first-party offering in the OCI Console, and the Red Hat subscriptions are available now through Oracle Marketplace, with the option to use Oracle Universal Credits for purchases there as well.
